A couple of years ago Ron Hackley, the author of Fun Graphics Machine, bought a Canon Bubble Jet 200e and started experimenting. The first results of his experiments were released earlier this year as upgrade printing modules for FGM.
Ron, being the thorough type had the modules in Beta Test for all that time before finally releasing them. I don't really know of any authors who are more careful than he is or who understand printer drivers better.
During the time that the FGM printer modules were in Beta Test he also sent me the enclosed upgrades for TWS128. Well, not exactly these upgrades. Mine are the earliest version and patched several times over a year or more. I talked to Ron a couple of months ago and asked him to please release a final version of these printer modules. He promised to do it and when I opened today's mail there was a final version that I could release. What took so long is that he, like I, had the code all merged nicely into other custom things in TWS and had to reverse engineer his original modules.
Then I noticed that he had forgotten to include the new help screens that he mentions in the documents. So, I took the help screens from my own version of TWS128 which were the same asthe upgraded ones he had planned to send, and included them with this package.
One thing I didn't remember until I saw this package is that I had extracted some of the control codes for different type faces, different pitches, and different Lines Per Inch from the codes in the example printout file as I saw it on my TWS screen and made up a little table that I taped to the top of my 128 to make it easier to remember. You can do the same very easily if you wish to. I only have the printout taped to my machine. I haven't the foggiest of what I did the file to make the printout or I would include it here.
Read and print out all of the files except the printer test file with your TWS 128 before installing anything. Ron's codes should work for all Canon Bubble Jets and any 24 pin printer that has an Epson emulation mode.
These modifications are NOT for those using 9 pin printers.
The other caution is that I do not believe these will work with any version of THE ILLUSTRATOR. At least, the last time I talked about this with Ron he said they didn't.
